Editorial Standards

We’re open to eight word stories of all types and genres, but there are a few things we won’t publish:

  • Stories longer than eight words. If you try to game our system with inappropriately hyphenated or otherwise concatenated words, your submission will be deleted unanswered.
  • Excessive language, sex, or gore. If it fits in the story that’s fine, but we’re most interested in stories for a PG-13 and below audience. That doesn’t mean we won’t publish a four-letter f-word, but you’ve gotta really wow us with your other seven words.
  • Something that’s not a story. This decision is totally subjective, sorry, but we’ll try to explain our decision if this is why we reject a story.
  • Anything defamatory to a real person or harmful to a people group. We’re interested in story, emotion, and redemption let’s focus on that not on agenda and vendetta.

We reserve the right to change these guidelines at any time and make editorial decisions in our sole discretion, but we’ll do our best to keep this list up to date.
